For this project, I was tasked to adapt a static design for Carleton University’s Graduation Celebration into an animated video bumper and name block. It required combining their core assets with a unique style for this event.
The footage used in these videos is stock footage simply for the purposes of displaying the design elements.
A collection of animated projects done for Algonquin College. These videos make use of Algonquin’s geometric-based illustrations, paired with other core brand assets, and are executed with smooth and satisfying motion.
This video was designed as a help video for students using ACSIS (Algonquin College Student Information System). It demonstrates a lot of ways the Algonquin College brand can be applied with animation and motion design. The animation in the video is clear and easy to follow, but also carefully timed to align with the voice over.
AC Vision was the first event of its kind. It allowed me to combine motion design and environmental branding with a modern style. The main screen at the event panned the entire wall, which was a very exciting new artboard to work on. Through a combination of bold imagery with the ferns and clean white lines, I was able to create a sense of depth and an overall modern design, which was the desired visual direction for the event. Different layouts were required for various content, as well as supporting graphics for digital screens, and stickers.
Viper League was a concept planned and executed by myself and two other interns over a 6 week period at You.i TV. The challenge was to create a video streaming application for a soccer league.
We began with a concept, built a flow and wireframes, then had it user-tested. After the core user experience was established, the visual design was established. The bright Viper League green was used in combination with shape and size to indicate the user’s focus point at any given time in the app. The use of bright colour contrasted with a darker background gave the app the fun and modern feel we wanted.
This instructional video was designed to help students set up Algonquin College as a payee and pay their tuition online. Clean, clear, and easy to understand were the most important aspects here. This is reflected in the minimalist graphics, smooth animation, and crisp layout of the text.
The Change site was designed to align with our tier-one brand advertising. I adapted this look into the college web template. It is a good example of how different designs can be built under the same templates and standards. The flow of imagery to information guides the user through the site, introducing them to new content as they scroll, but never overloading with too much of the same. The black and white photos, white space, and minimal but important use of colour give the site a professional and inspirational feel.
The Eastern Ontario College Curriculum (EOCC) was created to deliver the SkillsAdvance Ontario project for the Steel and Aluminum Manufacturing and Metal Fabrication sector of Eastern Ontario. The brand was created with the intent to be clean, modern and trustworthy. It needs to instill confidence in its clients.
The Future of Work is an initiative by Algonquin College in conjunction with the Learning Centre at 700 Sussex Drive. Creating the brand for the Future of Work was an interesting challenge because it had to be tied to the Algonquin College brand but also needed to be able to stand by itself.
The solution was to give it a unique typographic treatment and visual style that would stand out from the rest of the Algonquin brand, but also could be paired with Algonquin assets. Using colour and font weights that are not as predominant in the main brand achieved this look.
The Learner-driven Plan incentivizing learners to take their education into their own hands, and learn the way they want to. Under the Algonquin College brand, it needed some unique graphics to help distinguish itself.
The aesthetic of the Learner-driven Plan was intended to be modern, clean, and attention-grabbing so as to be noticed by students.
The menu designs for Chances R contain a mix of clean modern typography and photographic imagery. Imagery as textures and backgrounds are used as a way to include more graphics without cluttering up the design. This gives the whole menu a well balanced and complete look while remaining easy to read.
Over the course of the past couple of years, Algonquin College has undergone great efforts to unify its environmental branding. I had the opportunity to help develop these standards, as well as apply them in various locations.
Below you can see different examples of how I have applied the Algonquin College brand to spaces across campus. The colors, fonts, and general design principles stay the same as they are in the Visual Identity Standards. This environmental branding makes use of geometric shapes, line work, and typographic design.
ACX (Algonquin College Exchange) is a sub-brand I created to be used by a group of content creating students. It includes a simple package of logos and video bumper that they can apply to their work.
ACX has a much more modern feel than a lot of Algonquin College work, to ensure it aligns with the kind of work students will want to produce. Given that it’s a bit more of an independent and grassroots project, there was a bit more flexibility given to the brand. Algonquin Dark Green is paired with a glitch effect to achieve this look and feel.
